What is Unlabeled?

Unlabeled Music is a full-service audio recording and production facility located in the heart of Kansas City’s Westport Entertainment District. Founded in 2015, Unlabeled originally began as a record label with the intent of distributing local Kansas City musicians music worldwide. In 2016, the label started a membership-based program that incentivized artists with subsidized creative services and studio time in exchange for a small monthly fee.

In 2017 the Label disbanded and restructured as a recording studio focused primarily on servicing musicians in the traditional sense. The studio shifted focus back to the customer and began offering competitive studio time, creative services, and other opportunities for artist growth all in a one-stop-shop format.

In 2018, Unlabeled began focusing on how to grow their client base outside of the traditional studio format. This led to a full rebrand and rebuild of the business from the ground up and incorporated a more commercial based approach to growing in a competitive and crowded industry.

In 2019, Unlabeled expanded and opened its second full-service studio in Westport, Studio B, they also introduced a new product “The Unlabeled Experience,” which caters to non-musical customers looking to get the feel and experience of being in a recording studio.

As of 2020, Unlabeled is pursuing partnerships with local school districts, music lessons, and commercial audio recording contracts to further their advance and position in the local landscape. The studio has now expanded to include a podcast space and in late 2020 completed the 4th rebrand and design to match the new business model.

How Do I Book At Unlabeled?

Unlabeled operates on a deposit based booking system similar to other B2C businesses like hair-salons or event spaces. In order to book at unlabeled, we ask that you provide a deposit to secure your session or service timeslot on our calendar. Once that deposit is made, a member of our team will reach out to you to handle the logistics of the booking process and ensure your session or service is completed on-time and to your satisfaction. Being one of the busiest recording studios in the Midwest, Unlabeled’s calendar timeslots are competitive and served on a first-come-first-serve basis to those able to pay a deposit. We accept deposits via our online booking system, via mobile payment platforms like Paypal, Cashapp, and Venmo, or in cash, in-person at our studio.

Cancellations, Booking, and Rescheduling Policy

Unlabeled deposits are non-refundable and non-transferable. To be as clear as possible, we will not return a deposit under any circumstances. When a customer books a session at Unlabeled, their contact information is automatically sent to a pool of engineers that “pick up,” and confirm the session with a customer.. If a customer books a same-day session the session deposit is not refundable if there is not adequate time or engineers available. The customer’s deposit is good for a booking within 7 days.  Deposits for studio sessions are placed to protect our engineers and producers, as well as our business. Many frequently asked questions are what these deposits are for: Deposits play an integral role in ensuring we are able to compensate our staff appropriately and provide consistent and reliable income for our music professionals. When rescheduling your studio session, we ask that you notify us at least 24 hours prior to your session date & time. This allows our staff ample time to adjust our schedule to get you rebooked. In the event that you need to reschedule your session, we offer reschedules for up-to 7 days after you’ve made your deposit. After 7 days, your deposit and studio session timeslot is forfeited and no longer available.

Smoking & Alcohol Policy

Unlabeled operates as a smoke-free establishment. Our studio is meant to be accessible for all different ages and types of musicians and clients. Because of this, we want to ensure the atmosphere is welcoming for everyone. Customers who are interested in smoking are welcome to step outside to smoke and then return to their session after they have finished.

We allow our clients to personally bring alcohol in our studio that is of the legal age. If we suspect you are not of legal age to be consuming alcohol, we reserve the right to ask for identification and to confiscate your alcohol if we deem you underage. If you arrive at our studio intoxicated or become intoxicated, we reserve the right to remove you from our facility if you become insubordinate or disorderly.

Unsatisfactory Service & Product Policy

Music production and engineering is a subjective service. Because of this, we cannot explicitly guarantee your satisfaction with any of our creative products. We do guarantee that our studio will expend all available resources to ensure your experience, service, and quality match what we expect from our engineers, producers, and creative professionals. We hold ourselves to an extremely high standard of service and take pride in providing exceptional quality work for all of our clients. In the event that you feel your service was unsatisfactory, we will personally review your product and come to a decision on a refund or redo of service at that time.

Gift Card Certificate Policy

Unlabeled also sells gift cards, certificates, and puts on promotional offers. When a gift card is sold, the customer receives a promotional coupon to the email that their transaction and payment came from. We collect this email before payment is taken. All gift cards, certificates, and promotional offers with expiration dates will have them clearly displayed in their terms & conditions on the email, promotional coupon, and on the payment page.

Under no circumstances will unlabeled honor a gift certificate, coupon, or promotional offer past the expiration period. It is the customer’s responsibility to redeem their offer within the allotted time.
